Discovery Communications announced that it contributed $200,000 in proceeds earned from the sales of Animal Planet licensed merchandise to organizations supported by Animal Planet's non-profit initiative R.O.A.R.

The Animal Planet consumer products program includes pet and lifestyle products including apparel, toys and stationery.  Animal Planet licensees contribute a portion of their sales to R.O.A.R., which is dedicated to improving the lives of animals.

Funds were distributed evenly amongst eight R.O.A.R partners in 2010, including Petfinder Foundation, Steve Irwin's Wildlife Warriors Worldwide and the National Wildlife Federation.

"Working in tandem with Animal Planet licensees we helped raise vital funds for a wide array of worthwhile causes," says Elizabeth Bakacs, vice president of licensing for Discovery Commerce. "Our success in the marketplace allows Animal Planet licensing to help the very animals celebrated by the network every day.  As we continue to expand the retail presence of Animal Planet in 2011, we look forward to continuing our efforts for the animal welfare organizations supported by R.O.A.R."
