Amazon will relaunch its online clothing and shoe business with a focus on high-end style to compete with rivals such as Yoox and Net-A-Porter in the expanding online fashion market, the
Financial Times
has reported. According to Forrester Research, U.S. online sales of clothing and shoes grew 17 percent last year to $27 billion and over the next five years is expected to outstrip growth in other categories such as electronics.
To harness the trend, Amazon is recruiting software engineers to build new features, as well as graphic designers with experience in high-end fashion retailing. The move follows Ebay's relaunched fashion offering in April, under the Ebay Fashion brand.
