French fashion designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac (also known as JC/DC) will use "South Park" characters as the music icons of his new high-end collection, Holly Boys and Naughty Girls.
The collaboration between Jean-Charles de Castelbajac and Nickelodeon Consumer Products International is for a summer/autumn 2010 men's and women's wear capsule collection that will include T-shirts, tops, sweatshirts and leggings. It will take "South Park's" satirical themes to retailers around the world through high-end outlets in markets such as France, Italy, Germany, Russia, the U.K. and U.S. It will also be available at de Castelbajac's dedicated boutiques in London, Paris and Ukraine with items priced beginning at €45 ($60).
De Castelbajac has described the line as being about rock and roll.
"I discovered 'South Park' and Nirvana at the same time. I would mute my TV to play 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' loud. The fusion of the two made perfect sense to me," he says. "'South Park,' with its irreverent story lines, quirky characters, its colorful range, brutality and noisy drawing, encapsulates the world I want to portray."
"South Park resonates with young people who do not want to be part of the mainstream crowd and these are just the type of fashion shoppers who appreciate Jean-Charles de Castelbajac's idiosyncratic design signature," says Jean-Philippe Randisi, senior vice president and managing director of NCPI. "The JC/DC collaboration creates the perfect home for Stan, Kyle, Eric and Kenny and I can't wait to see Comedy Central's hit animation translate into a designer clothing line."
