Kate Spade, which is owned by Fifth & Pacific, has signed a new deal with eyewear licensee Safilo Group for the Jack Spade brand and extended its current agreement for Kate Spade New York eyewear.

In a new five-year agreement, Safilo will create men’s sunglasses and optical collections under the Jack Spade brand for the North American market. The sunglasses will be available at top-tier department stores, sunglass specialty retailers (including Solstice Sunglasses, which is owned by Safilo) and Jack Spade retail stores across the U.S. and Canada beginning in February 2014.

The sunglasses line will be followed by a men’s optical collection in April 2014.

“Both Jack Spade and Safilo share a deep passion for design, quality craftsmanship and attention to detail,” says Craig Leavitt, chief executive officer, Kate Spade. “Jack Spade’s entrance into the eyewear category with such a regarded industry partner is a natural progression of our existing Kate Spade New York eyewear assortment.

At the same time, the partners extended their existing international licensing agreement for Kate Spade New York eyewear for an additional three years.

“We are extremely pleased to expand this very successful longstanding partnership that has excellent growth expectations. Jack Spade creates new opportunities to enhance the male segment of our portfolio that has tremendous potential, with a stylish yet timeless, functional brand that has a sense of fun,” says Luisa Delgado, chief executive officer, Safilo Group. “The prolongation of our Kate Spade licensing agreement by three years is particularly pleasing for us, confirming the incredible success we are having together.”
