To commemorate the “Star Wars” saga and ahead of the final film installment, “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,” A Bathing Ape is set to release a curated collection featuring the A Bathing Ape mascot, Baby Milo, alongside icons from a galaxy far, far, away.
Fukui, artist, A Bathing Ape, and the rest of his team created the designs inspired by the original films as well as the upcoming “The Rise of Skywalker.” Droids like BB-8 and newcomer D-O are represented alongside mainstays like Darth Vader, Chewbacca, and Jabba the Hutt with Salacious B. Crumb.
“There are a lot of ‘Star Wars’ fans on our team,” says Fukui. “The beauty of [George] Lucas’ work is that he never fails to incorporate the human nature in all of his characters. They made it very easy to visualize their coexistence with the adorable Baby Milo.”
Fukui is particularly fond of a design he created with Peter Mayhew, the original actor behind Chewbacca, in mind. Mayhew passed away earlier this year and to honor his memory the design features a stylized Chewbacca standing tall with BB-8 and D-O peeking out from behind him.
The collection boasting t-shirts, tote bags, jackets and key chains will be released Dec. 21. It comes following the release of two Star Wars x A Bathing Ape graphic t-shirt earlier this year.
