Arriving onto the market on March 2, the watch embodies the old school style of Silly Putty with a cherry red case, aqua silicone strap and sandblasted dial to match the retro brand’s colors.
While the watch resembles the ultra-stretchable toy, its stainless-steel core, durable resin case and hand-assembled Argonite 705 movement means the new Detrola Silly Putty watch is built to endure play.
“Detrola is our most expressive, colorful watch collection to date, with an appreciation for the past and an eye toward the future,” says Shannon Washburn, chief executive officer, Shinola. “Silly Putty is such a fun, iconic American product, a level of ‘iconic’ that we aspire to be. We are so excited to be collaborating with Crayola on a watch that embodies both brands’ aesthetics and excites both brands’ audiences.”
“For 71 years, Silly Putty has had many uses – from stress-relief putty to cleaning keyboards,” says Warren Schorr, vice president, business development and global licensing, Crayola, “Today, we join another American-born brand, Shinola, to celebrate its inventiveness and longevity with a new, commemorative watch.”
Each watch comes with its own signature cherry red egg of Silly Putty and is available for $395 at Shinolal.com and select retailers.
